Map the maze before you move

Spend the first two seconds of each level scanning the layout. Note where power pellets sit, which corridors are one-way traps, and where tunnels connect opposite sides of the board. Players who memorize these landmarks waste fewer lives recovering from bad turns.

Prioritize dots in open areas before entering narrow alleys. Wide zones give you escape options when a ghost shifts direction. If two pellet clusters are equal distance away, choose the one nearest a power pellet or tunnel.

Avoid reversing direction unless you are dodging a ghost. Constant backtracking costs time and lets pursuers close distance. Smooth, forward momentum keeps your route predictable to you—even when it looks chaotic to ghosts.

Power pellet timing wins games

Power pellets temporarily reverse the threat: ghosts become vulnerable and bonus points stack with each capture. Do not eat a power pellet the moment you see it unless danger is immediate. Holding one until three or more ghosts are nearby maximizes score and clears space for the rest of the level.

After eating a pellet, chase the closest ghost first, then sweep toward others along your planned route. The vulnerability window is short at higher levels, so chain captures in a loop rather than chasing across the entire maze.

If only one ghost threatens you, a power pellet may be better saved for a later ambush. Treat pellets like limited super moves in a puzzle game—deployment timing matters more than frequency.

Read ghost behavior and zones

Each ghost follows distinct tendencies. One may chase your current tile directly, while another targets a spot ahead of you, and a third patrols a region. Recognizing these patterns lets you bait ghosts into corners before flipping the board with a power pellet.

When two ghosts approach from different angles, move toward the gap between them rather than running parallel to a wall. Walls reduce your exit angles and turn a small mistake into a lost life.

Use the ghost house and spawn timing to your advantage. Fresh ghosts often move predictably for a moment after release—clear nearby dots during that brief window before they spread across the maze.

Tunnels, corners, and micro-movement

Side tunnels let you escape pursuers, but they also compress your reaction time on exit. Enter a tunnel only when you know which ghost is closest and whether a power pellet is available on the other side.

Corner cutting saves fractions of a second that add up over long runs. Practice pressing the next direction one tile before a turn so you glide through intersections without stopping.

On touch and keyboard controls alike, input buffering helps: queue your next turn early when you are committed to a path. Hesitation at junctions is the most common cause of late-game deaths.

Score building and level transitions

Fruit bonuses and ghost chains multiply points quickly. Plan to activate a power pellet when a bonus item appears nearby so you can collect both in one aggressive loop.

Between levels, the maze layout changes but habits carry over. Re-scan quickly rather than assuming symmetry. Early dots in a new level are often safest—clear them before speed increases.

If you are chasing a personal best, consistency beats risky hero plays. Surviving with steady clears often outscores flashy runs that end on the third life.

Late-game survival checklist

When speed ramps up, shrink your ambition: take smaller loops and keep one power pellet in reserve until the board is half clear. Panic clears lead to tunnel traps and double corners.

If ghosts cluster near the last pellet cluster, lure them away with a wide arc, then double back through a tunnel. The extra travel is cheaper than losing a life.

Pause mentally after each life lost and identify the single decision that caused it—usually a late turn or a wasted power pellet. One corrected habit per run is how long streaks are built.
